You may want to use Knoppix v8.2 instead of v8.6 though since I did have some odd behavior on one Mac with Knoppix v8.6. Knoppix should work well on this laptop if the hardware is working. The Ubuntu/Knoppix logs may contain some clues if there is a hardware issue, but keep in mind some errors may not have any real meaning. You can check the 'dmesg' log on Knoppix as well. Sometimes it may take Knoppix a while to boot (its a Mac issue). You can also try booting a Knoppix Linux USB drive. You could try looking at the system logs using 'sudo dmesg' or 'sudo journalctl'. If a recent version of Ubuntu is freezing the laptop as well, then you likely have some sort of hardware issue. If you have any ideea please share it with me.Thanks.
